Our History
We have also performed installations for FPL, Lee County DOT, Lee County School District, “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, Florida Gulf Coast University, and Lee County EOC, and continue to work with various municipalities in Lee and Collier counties. We are proud to have provided projects as part of the recovery from Hurricanes Charlie and Irma and smaller storms in between them. We guarantee the highest level of service and materials for both commercial and residential installations, and look forward to each of our future projects.
Smith Fence Company of Fort Myers has been located in Lee County since 1984. One of our first projects was installing 30,000 of fence for the Ford Motor Co. test track in Collier County. We have worked with the cities of Cape Coral and Fort Myers to complete many installations through the years, including fencing the baseball fields and bullpens at Lee County Player Development complex (former training ground for the Red Sox) and Sam Fleishman Sports Complex in Fort Myers, as well as fencing for the soccer and baseball fields at the 52-acre Cape Coral Sports Complex.
OUR FOUNDER
Keith Carpenter
Keith Carpenter got his start in the fencing industry in 1977, as a sales rep for a national chain link manufacturer in Tampa, FL. Over the next few years, he transitioned through managing wholesale branches in Greensboro, NC, and back in Tampa before moving into the retail sector with a fence company in Clearwater-St. Petersburg, FL. That move led to his relocation in Fort Myers in 1984, and the establishment of Smith Fence Company of Ft. Myers, Inc.
In the decades since, Smith Fence Company of Ft. Myers fenced the original City of Palms/Red Sox spring training facility, the Lee County EOC, the Ford test track, countless schools, sports fields, parks and utilities. Keith oversaw installations for almost every local state, county and city municipality, and virtually every school in Lee County -- many from the day their construction began. In the years after Hurricane Charlie, it was impossible to count how many commercial, municipal and residential properties were re-fenced. He has supervised installations inside warehouses, through swamps, around prisons, on roof tops and under bridges.
After his company came under new ownership in early 2021, Keith continues to contribute his vision and his extensive, diverse, and invaluable experience to the new team as consultant-in-chief.

Vedran Vicevic
Owner
Originally from Croatia and now based in Naples, FL, Vedran Vicevic purchased Smith Fence of Fort Myers in early 2021, with the goal of helping Keith’s company legacy to grow further. While taking a daily active part in Smith Fence, Vedran also works as a real estate broker associate at Re/Max. Vedran has a passion for investments and gained commercial real estate experience while working with IRC Commercial Real Estate Services, a local firm that has been in business for 40+ years. There he trained and participated in property management, investment strategy, and commercial transactions. Vedran is actively pursuing his CCIM designation and is a member of CIP SWFL and BNI. Before his venture into real estate and the specialty construction industry, Vedran worked as a sea captain and was in the maritime industry for many years.
